HP servers - DL360

Another thumbs up, we use many DL360s (even some older G3 stuff are still running!). Only possible competition (do I dare say?) is the Poweredge 1950 which we also have many of :)

Also have a number of 380 but will be replacing soon due to power consumption (something you should consider between the 360 and 380).

Only limitation of the Dl360 is the number of expansions slots. For ESX servers I need more NICs as well as dual fiber cards. Other than that the DL360s I've specified recently have tended to be either Citrix boxes or just about anything else.

You do realise that an identically specified 360 draws more power (at least based on HPs calculator) than the 380?

For example a 2 x E5450 (3Ghz Quad), 32GB LP Ram, 2 x 36GB SAS 2 x PCI

360 Requires 472W input and generates 1609 BTU/hr
380 Requires 457W input and generates 1560 BTU/hr

Just thought that might be of interest.

Yeah even with dual port cards you only have 4 nic ports for networking. That's probably enough for most applications though, if you are maxing out 4gbit aggregate you probably need to scale out anway.

How many servers are you actually looking at getting? Depending on the quantity and your network configuration, you may find it cheaper to look at blade solution. Especially with the FOC enclosure promotion that is on.

I agree if I was maxing out 4 Gbps but its more to do with building in as much redundancy as possible. I want 2 single channel Fiber HBAs and a Quad port NIC which you can't fit into a DL360.
