HP Tape Autoloaders

My autoloader has bust, but I think the drive itself still works. Does anyone know whether I can remove the drive from inside it and attach it to a linux box and run the tape drive on that temporarily to extract the old data?

I thought I'd ask before tearing it apart as we're trying to get HP to repair it and I doubt I could dismantle it without leaving marks....

Wouldn't surprise me it if was possible - connectors etc. will likely be standard, just might need a switch or two held down. Can't say for certain though as I've never tried it...
