I am going to use my touchpad primarily as a remote for my HTPC with splashtop

is it better with android or webOS?

at the moment it is only running webOS and I have not bought splashtop yet, but I do have it on android

Just go for it, if you don't like it you can just boot back into webOS. I prefer it as an Android device apart from the battery life is worse under Android than it is under webOS.

I only have the first Alpha build of ICS but the main thing was it killed the battery pretty quickly. I only get maybe 4 hours usages out of it and a couple of days of standby where as on WebOS I get a couple of weeks and many more hours out of 1 charge.

Has the battery drain been improved in more recent builds?

I will have to find a guide, I haven't ever done this before, interesting about battery life, but I don't think it will be much of a hassle

Is there an idiots guide out there, there seem to be a lot of slightly different ones

It isn't as good, I will give you that and it has been so long since I used webOS I can't really remember what I could get out it. webOS had potential but my God the web browsing alone put me off. The new ICS 4.04 nightly builds run like a dream (still no camera). As you say it isn't really much of a hassle as I won't use it more than e.g. the length of a football match. There is a TP Android thread here but here is what you need to get Android (video guide is in there).

I use the CM9 alpha 2 and very pleased with it. The lack of camera is a shame, hopefully that will be addressed at some point and then I can fore go taking a netbook with me for skype.

Cheers for the links, will use that.

Camera isn't an issue for me, only want a web browser, remote desktop really, guess I need a touchstone too if it's gonna sit next to the sofa
