As per discussion in the main Touchpad thread, it might be easier to have a seperate thread for Android here? There will probably be quite a few different Android ROMs soon so we probably won't just be restricted to Cyanagenmod 7.1. I'll update this OP with a few of the download links and instructions.

Alpha 2 now out:

I've not had a chance to have a proper look at this yet, so can anyone give me a brief overview of how it actually is at the moment? It's an alpha right, so obviously far from finished. But (those of you who've taken the plunge) is it in a usable state for someone who doesn't mind playing around a bit?

Can people post any sort of themes or cuustomization they have?

I got a honeycomb theme and i set up my layout in landscape but when i flip the device the layout obviosuly gets screwed and looks rubish.

Any ideas how to sort this?

Honestly, it's called an Alpha but I've yet to find any real issues. I have a touch screen waking issue after a long time of no use, which is fixed in seconds just by pressing the power button off and on again. All of my apps work so far, a couple of problems with some games not designed for the aspect ratio so you miss a bit off the screen is the only other problem I've encountered.

So all the main features (wifi, touchscreen, etc) are all working decently then? How's the overall performance compared to other android devices, and compared to the WebOS?

All main features work yes. I have two other Gingerbread Android tablets, a Galaxy Tab and an HTC Flyer and perfomance is comparable with those. Iplayer, youtube (the dedicated app), web browsing, games, dlna, video playing (not 720p) all work fine.

I did some quick videos earlier for some other members:

I love you Wicksta - any dumbed down instructions would be appreciated - Im an iPhone user ;):p...

ps3ud0

I've put some in the OP now, they should work but might need tidying up. Don't worry you can't break anything long term, I will put some links and instructions to WebOS doctor for restoring back to stock in case people don't like Android or something goes wrong.

Been using the 'alpha' version of this on my Touchpad for most of the evening. No real major issues encountered, only a couple of issues with a few force closes and the wifi not connecting occasionally after it has been sleeping but that was resolved by a quick reboot. Also been playing some SNES games using a sixaxis controller and all good there too!

The actual install was really simple too, just a case of following the simple 6 steps in the read me from the website and it does everything else!

Very impressed especially if there is better performance / stability to come based upon the alpha tag!

On the off chance, does anybody know to nuke everything and start again, not sure what is happening with the storage and how it relates to webos. When i first installed CM 7 it seemed to kill most of what was in /media/internal apart from a few folders, not a problem but CM 7 only appears to recognise its internal storage, on 16GB Touchpad there is 10GB or so available but no way of mounting it, I might be missing something obvious though 'cause it is my first Android device ( I use Ubuntu daily however, Windows free from year 2000ish.)

Pull up the notification bar and click mount USB :o

You can just move the ACME installer file to the palm, inc folder then browse to that folder in CMD if you can't get it to work.

What launchers are people using? I've giveing GO EX a whirl but it's making the text under the icons in the app draw massive!

Um that would just give you the internal storage no?

This might be more indicative of my problem,

I'm wondering if that is normal because it looks odd to me, ideally I would like to know what steps the Acmeinstaller took so I can undo them and redo them manually.

Web Doctor doesn't touch the Android partition, I'll leave it till tomorrow because I getting tired but I don't care about preserving the Webos userdata, the backup sync is cool but I don't want it to run maybe I can get away with a dummy Webos account but I still would like a way to kill the Android partition and start afresh.

can't you just mount the touchpad to your PC then use diskpart to "clean" the storage disk?

Also, anyone got a recommendation for a good streaming media player??
