HP ZR30w and U3011 Input Lag comparison

That's an interesting little video and an interesting take on showing responsiveness. I hate the usual camera capture method of attempting to define a value for 'input lag' because when the accuracy is within 16.33ms there's little point to be honest. Much better to have a practical demonstration like this. :)

As in swap the inputs over (if you aren't using a splitter)? Good idea. According to the description the U3011 was the lagger, unsurprisingly.

So which one was lagging?

What if you control it from the other monitor?

The Dell on the right is visibly behind the HP on the right, it makes no difference where you click on the window or which inputs were used on the graphics card. The slight lag is the time the Dell takes to process the image, whereas the HP goes straight through.

But like I said you can't really notice it in game though, interesting to see it side by side though.

Do you game split screen or just extended desktop?

If you game single screen on it then you wont notice any difference, but the lag will make you a faction of a second slower to react which is can be a lot in a FPS.

Yeah to be honest I only tried 1 monitor at a time for gaming, couldn't really feel the lag, but it must be there though. I actually just prefer the HP's default colour settings, the Dell seem's to have a "pinkish" hue to everything, you wouldn't really tell unless you see them side by side.

Does the Dell U3011 support a gaming mode (like the Dell u2410 does) and if so, did you have it on.

The 'game mode' on the U3011 doesn't seem to bypass any processing and apprently has negligible effect on input lag. I'm not sure why exactly Dell didn't replicate the bypassing 'game mode' of the U2410 for the U2711 and U3011.

Nice visual example of input lag :)

I'll admit that I was a bit skeptical that the video capture rate would be sufficient to show the lag, but I guess it is :) There is no way I would want to play fast-paced shooters with that kind of lag... <20ms for me, please!

It's pretty uncommon to find a 30 inch monitor with decent input lag, the ZR30w has around 11ms average which is extremely good and the Dell U3011 has around 40ms average which is kind of poor for gaming as ideally you want 20ms or less.

The Hazro 30 inch on this site has 14ms average input lag too which is another good gaming monitor in that size range to consider.

I have to thoroughly recommend the ZR30w, it's an awesome monitor, very good for gaming.... crysis looks amazing, as does BF2 BC2.
