HP's WebOS Event: Think Big, Think Small, Think Beyond. 6PM

Just written a thousand word blog post about this.

Basically, it's new, it's shiny and it's different. It's competition for the iPad 2 and is streets ahead of anything out now, at least in hardware specs.

I'll post a link when the post's up.

Standard compared to what? I mean the CPU mainly.

The two scorpion cores @ 1.2Ghz will be fairly similar to a cortex A9 design at 1Ghz (like tegra 2 in the 2X/Atrix/xoom, Apples A5 in the ipad 2 etc) The gpu looks good though and overclocking potential could be stunning (1.6ghz+ :))

The pad looks great. The phones look average (especially the smaller ones, there is a really good reason why touchscreen phones went bigger). The pre3's battery is small although I realise webOS is a bit less power hungry. The bigger problem is you have to one-up your competitors now to get sales and I fear that HP havn't done enough with the pre to make it a must have.

Except it's not going to be available for 4-6 months. That is a frankly stupid thing to do, you've lost the interest by then and the ipad2 will be out along with a whole load of android tablets.

Not to mention the even greater stupidity of announcing the Pre 3, again with 4-6 months until release, while at the same time letting all the current Pre owners know that their devices aren't going to get updated. Your current customers know they're holding a dead end device and have plenty of time to think about moving away.

And the real killer in all this is that webOS actually looks pretty fantastic.

i have just heard that. ****ed me off. No upgrade to 2.0 for the pre, WTF!

i don't know whether to cck my phone away and jump to android or decide to go for a pre2.

im not pleased with al of that as well....I was hoping for webos2 for pixi for my GF....

will have to find a new phone for her soon ....

Good - I am massive Palm Pre fan, it was the hardware that was the let down. I said from the get go it would make a better Tablet OS.

In fact despite loving my DesireHD to bits (running Cyanogen7 Gingerbread) - I still maintain WebOS is THE best mobile OS out there.

I don't think WP7, Pre 3 will get anywhere near iPhone numbers. They will cater to their niche and that's about it. (but you're right i missed them off the list)

Its the tablet market where no one is really established yet where things are interesting.

With the nokia/microsoft partnership, I have to take this comment back.
