HRD Rectanguar Drive

I was just reading about this at work, all sounds very interesting. I think it will be a while before we see anything come to market though, will be an interesting one to follow.

Nice, but unless their capacities improve, SSD will be well past by the time it gets to market, and be pushing if not overtaking the IOPS. Plus no mention of pricing. :(

I think they will price these in between the SSD and normal HD
The only thing I dont like about SSD is after about 100,000 write cycles its on it way out and the price is way to much for me.

Have you stopped and done the maths? Supposing you were to erase and rewrite the entire capacity of the SSD, every day. Normal use clearly being much less than that with wear-levelling algorithms. It would then last you 100,000 days.. over 273 years. Is that really a concern of yours? :p
Plus it's worth noting that when it dies due to too many write cycles, you can still read your data, and therefore you haven't lost anything, unlike a HDD failure. So 273 years in the future, when it finally fails, you'll be able just to buy a new, shiny, bigger, better one and transfer your stuff onto it, and then just keep it as a backup.

Price.. sure, that is indeed a stumbling block for many people at the moment. Patience is a virtue :)
