Hi Folks,

I need to make a CHAPS payment on Friday and was told in HSBC that I can either do this in a branch or over the internet. I don't think I am going to be able to get to a bank in time to do it so the internet is my best option (and it's supposedly cheaper the cashier told me today).

However, looking on the internet banking I can't find anywhere where I can make an instant payment, only BACS payments that take 3 days to clear. Am I just being blind or was the girl in the branch telling me fibs!

Before anyone says "Why didn't you just do it in the bank while you were there?" the nearest branch to me has no counters and is just cash machines and a few staff to help with enquiries. I don't have enough free time due to work to walk accross town and queue up to do the transfer.

Thanks all!

Matt

If its going to a different bank then the girl in the branch was telling you fibs. Can't be done AFAIK.

Not sure if you have a personal or a business account but with a business account to do it online you need to setup a payment limit which means printing out the form (the link is under payments) and you have to send it in to your local branch for it to be activated.

Very few banks will allow this online. Most insist it's done in branch for security reasons :)
