HSBC - steer clear.

To be honest such behaviour is just asking for it. I've got £1,500 student overdraft and I know fully well that they'd probably screw me over if I kept my balance in the £1,450+ overdrawn region. Not had a single problem in 7 years of teenage/student banking with them.
I also have a £1500 student OD facility with HSBC, moved it all to a savings account (also with HSBC) so I'm constantly around -£1400. Never had a problem with it since I opened the account in 2004.

Even the once or twice when I've gone over the limit (but transferred money into the account sharpish once I've noticed) they haven't charged me.

Now Natwest.....

That would be the same Natwest that lost £400 worth of cheques in a branch, and despite me having proof of paying them in, wouldnt credit my account until the found the cheques!

As though it was somehow my fault that they lost the cheques....

The same Natwest who opened me an ISA, photocopied my passport, but neglected to check I'd signed it, so it didnt get opened in time for the tax year it was supposed to be opened in.

Moved to HSBC instead, wouldnt trust Natwest with a paper aeroplane!
