HSBC student account question - overdraft related

Rubbish, that's what they bank wants you to think.

I'm more than happy to show charges of £2 or less each month in "Debit Interest" for being over my OD by about £100. Like I said, it's only if you persistently go over the limit will it trigger a £20 charge. The bank manager told me this only applies to student accounts however. Lucky us.

What part are you rubbishing?

Outragous bank charges have been discussed here and everywhere for a good while. My (ex-)student house's joint account went over by 60p and just escalated into total charges of £100 upwards extremely quickly. I managed to get some back but at the end of the day they will charge you for whatever they can. I might be wrong saying weekly but we managed to rack up around £100 in definately no more than a month or two.

I've been happy enough with HSBC (my current graduate account) but having been messed around and charged by Halifax (charges over ~£30 within a week or two for going slightly over my limit) in my first year at Uni, then by Natwest^ with our joint account -- i have little faith in banks.

Sorry mate, I completely mis-read you post :o

I read the sentence: "Just remember the guy will keep getting charged like every week as long as he's still over his overdraft limit." as "Just remember this guy will keep getting charged like every week as long as he's still over his overdraft limit.".

So you can see the difference as I thought you were referring to the OP's mate.
But you are correct, certain banks do slam on high charges, it all goes down to the bank, the account type and conditions, and how good you are at blagging!
