HTC Desire HD (Ace)

My housemates DHD was very laggy recently which perplexed me as mine had been so smooth and fast, even after restoring to factory settings it was still very bad, the thing that fixed it was switching on USB debugging in the app options...

A known bug apparently.

Just tried that and it's much better. OMG. I just assumed it was laggy because I had 7 home screens full of widgets.

Are there any dangers to doing this though? It gives me a warning about applications being installed without my knowledge.

I was getting through half a battery while sleeping last week and it wasn't lasting a working day previously. Went on a 'what ever was eating battery' killing spree. :o

Nice..can you share any thoughts of what improved your battery life then? Mine overnight idle (9hrs or so) has used about 30%...and would be very interested in improving this

cheers

Wifi uses a lot less power than GSM/3G, so I leave it on all the time. Disabled automatic brightness too.
The main thing was reinstalling Leedroid 1.5.1 with a full wipe and not restoring the settings with Titanium Backup (power usage rocketed after I did a full restore).

Also removed the following programs with Root Explorer (all loaded something at startup that stayed in the memory.) I think this saved about 100MB of RAM in total.

Lol and another one bites the dust. Back up your SMSs folks.

Nah they don't contain anything useful. I use email for that :) Still a bit odd though. Is it a recognised problem with an impending fix? Or just one of those things?

From what I've read HTC are bouncing it back to Google who are blaming third party apps etc. etc.. But it's certainly happened to a LOT of people.

My DHD randomly deleted all my texts last night before I put it on charge. I've just noticed an increase in battery life.

11h since being unplugged and 54% charge still. That's with Auto brightness and Auto sync enabled, Google mail & Hotmail every 10mins and Weather every 2/3 hours.

Has anyone else that's has the random txts deleted noticed an increase?

Just had my texts wiped last night also, for the 2nd time now. Randomly restarted this afternoon too for seemingly no reason.

Anybody got any good suggestions for SMS backups? The one i have restores the texts, but the time they were received is that of the restore time (Ends up being thousands of texts all restored within 15 minutes or so, making reading conversations impossible.)

I use SMS Backup+ which backs up your messages to your Gmail account, I think it keeps all the original time and dates of them but I didn't take much notice when I used it before tbh.

I use this now now also, based on Trifid's recommendation above:

I used a program called sms backup + by Jan Berkel which uploads them to a folder in gmail, works really well. http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-backup/com.zegoggles.smssync

...and it works really well. Very pleased, especially for a free app.

Just sent a text and it's already in my Gmail, though you can just set it to backup once per day, week etc.

Some of you may remember that I sent my DHD to HTC for repair last week about the camera blur problem - Well I tracked my repair this morning again and it says that the phone is ready to be sent back to me.

So I decided to give HTC a ring and they said that the phone should be desptched to me tomorrow and that I should have it back by the end of the week at the latest. I asked if anything on the phone had been repaired/replaced but they said that according to their records, a full diagnostics test was carried out and no hardware problems were detected and a visual inspection also confirmed this...

He said that the only thing else carried out was that the phone was totally re-flashed to the latest stock ROM and apparently the camera was tested after this and that according to the notes the test was sucessful... I really hope that the problem has been fixed, but this does not sound promising! I will post again when I get te phone back.

LEK-89 - my camera spontaneously stopped blurring photos. I'm sure it was an update that I didn't notice, as it just literally stopped happening one day.

So don't lose hope :p, hopefully the re-flash has sorted it out.

Is the 1.72 ROM (well 1.32 if you didn't get the change to update to 1.72, as HTC pulled this update a couple of weeks ago) still the latest version avaliable or have HTC released a new ROM within the last few days?

The guy at HTC who I spoke to earlier stated that the latest ROM flash must have fixed the camera problem on my DHD as the notes state that the after test was sucessful. If it is infact down to a software issue then fair enough but I hope that they haven't just flashed the phone to the latest ROM as a quick fix.

Thanks for your reply though Robbie :)

I presume it is the latest, as mine says 1.72.405.3...whether this is the latest build of the 1.72 version or not, I don't know.

Yeah you are on the latest one, I was on the same ROM as well before sending my DHD back to HTC last week.
