HTC Desire HD Thread

Shame it's still using the snapdragon processor and probably another OLED screen, not even the new one used on the Galaxy S.

Not bad, but not great either.

Yeah, it would be nice to see some better tech. HTC's offerings are falling a bit behind now.

Yep, I would still get the Galaxy S, Hummingbird CPU is faster, comes with VR540 graphics accelerator and Super AMOLED Screen and will get 2.2 next month.

Only real drawback is the lack of flash....still don't understand why Samsung didn't include one.

so is the galaxy s a better phone, im due to upgrade next week and wonder should i wait for the hd or go for the galaxy s??

No one knows until the HD comes out... (qualcomm has been shipping its 1.2Ghz duel core snapdragons since june... :D:D:p:p:cool::p:p)

If you like Galaxy S design then go for it! It'll fly with 2.2.

It is better, but the build quality of it is terrible. It is also far worse from a software PoV, you'd want the Sense UI most likely that only comes on HTC phones.

I didn't initially think it was too bad, but it is now showing that parts of the phone start to show wear after just a few weeks of use.

Horrible fail from Samsung.

Wait a bit for the HD.

I have to agree with ^

I played with the Galaxy in the o2 shop and it was an Epic fail imo. A horrible UI and felt proper plasticy.

Compared to the Desire or HTD HD2 Pro it felt proper cheap.

I'm gonna wait and see what the HD is like

I love the Galaxy for the screen, and I like what they've done with the UI in areas e.g. the notification bar and the contacts app, but the rest of it is a bizarre iPhone hodge-podge and the build quality definitely isn't as good as I thought it was.

It would be nice if they put an AMOLED or even SAMOLED on it, but it will probably be SLCD given the problems they've had with the Desire.

The build quality of the Galaxy S is just fine, just because it has a plastic back does not mean the build quality is poor, they did drop tests on youtube and it's a very solid phone. You can't really blame Samsung if you scratched the casing, you should protect it better. ;)

Besides, it's a trade off, heavy "solid" phone or light but made of plastic.

The interface is really down to personnal preference, but for me it's like comparing Windows Classic to Aero, well sort of. I prefer the Touchwiz 3 interface, much nicer to look at imo and in it's current state not as slow as some users make out.

Also if you don't mind flashing firmware, there are fixes availabe for the "lag" some are reporting but users might as well wait until next month.

The example I was talking about is wear after several weeks use. Lots of people have reported that the main button and the back of the phone start to show signs of wear very quickly.

I actually don't mind how the phone feels, I've tried one and thought it felt quite fine.

It is a bad move from Samsung using such cheap housing though, whether it is due to trying to make the phone lighter or keeping costs down.

Sense IS better than TouchWiz, don't kid yourself.

Nice price. ;)

Just noticed Android 3.0 is due in October. I think I'll just wait until then, and get a phone with it pre-installed. That should allow time for some of you lot (and the review sites), to get your/their hands on the Desire HD and compare it to the Galaxy S for me. :p

I'm tempted to do the same, but it may be a further couple of months before phones come with it out of the box. It will be very hard to say no to upgrading when they start calling me...

I'm pretty sure I'll be going for the Samsung Galaxy S now. My mums bf has a desire, and the battery life is chronic, it can't even get through 1 day of use, and it's a month old.

The desire HD has a bigger screen, so I'm guessing will take more power to run?

Also 4" should be more than big enough really. Will going to 4.3" make that much difference?

Anyone know why Qualcomm have only released a 45nm version of the CDMA snapdragon chipset and not the GSM version?

QSD8250 - GSM Snapdragon 1ghz 65nm (2007 release)
QSD8650 - CDMA Snapdragon 1ghz 65nm (2007 release)
QSD8650A - CDMA Snapdragon 1.3ghz 45nm (2009 release)

Bigger phone means you can fit a bigger battery as well though.
