Ahoy everyone,

I currently have a Nokia 5800 and will probably change it in a few months or so, maybe beginning of April.

I haven't really been keeping up to date with new phones so thought I'd post to get some ideas.

I have been thinking about getting either a Blackberry or an Android based phone, so probably the HTC Hero.

I don't know much about Android devices at all, what are the benefits of it, say compared to one of the new Nokia and the new Maemo system? Are the apps available for Android devices good? The Ovi Store ones only seem adequate not that amazing.

With the Blackberry, I have heard you can get apps as well, are they the same sort of ones that are available to others?
Again what is good about the Blackberry? I only know of BBM, and I really need to see how much I would use BBM before I consider purchasing one.

I currently have an 02 Simplicity contract which has free internet, would I have to purchase an add on to use the blackberry to its full capabilities?

Thanks for any help!

Blackberry you can get apps as well...some of them are the same as the other mobile phones but the decent ones ie useful ones cost money...which i have no problem with as i dont want to inundated with 90k worth of useless apps:p

The good thing about BB is the email, its instant ie push...theres no limit on how many email accounts you can have..i have 4 including my hotmail and gmail and 2 work related emails on my 9700. I also have the Storm2 as well but dont use it all that much...probably sell it on. Yes you would need to add the BIS option aka blackberry internet service...usually about £5 a month and that gives you unlimited email useage along with BB useage...without BIS not many apps will work plus without BIS you wont get the full BB experience.

As for Android??..good phones...i had the HTC magic but sold it as i got bored of it very quickly...compared to BB there are more apps for Android but thats to be expected as its going up against the iphone. But for me the Android didnt hold my interest long enough so i ditched it and got a Storm2 from vodafone instead.

Also if i was going Android id give the Hero a miss...theres much better Android phones coming out in the nest few mths with much better hardware;).

For more wonderful info about BB's just go to the link in my sig:).

The Hero is old technology and is on the verge of being replaced. The next generation of Android phones is coming in the next couple of months. Like the Nexus 1, Desire, Legend (I think this is Android). The Motorola Milestone has a keyboard which might be a draw seeing as you have listed a Blackberry.

Ah just the person I was hoping would reply!
The email account thing doesn't really bother me that much, I don't really receive emails.

I was looking at the Blackberry Bold 9700, very expensive though :(

I have no probs with paying money for apps, as long as they are good!

Well if your upgrading then it shouldnt be too expensive...have a look around but you can buy them off line for about £350 which isnt too bad.

Even if you dont receive emails or wont be using the email function then you still need the BIS add on otherwise BBM wont work and quite a few apps wont work either....if thats the case then id probably go with the Android as you wont have to pay for any addons to get it working.

Yeah I've seen them for around that price.
I won't be upgrading my contract, just adding on that blackberry bolt on. I don't like being stuck into a contract, but will have to weigh up some options.

I need to research more on Android to get a decent idea!

My manager has a Storm2, feels very very cheap - then again HTC Hero also feels very flimsy. That's probably because I have an iPhone which is an all in one case, i.e. no clips or screws which add weak points to the casing like other phones.

I would wait for the Nexus One, Desire etc - that's what I'm doing.

The N900 seems ok, only thing that annoys me about the N900 is the UI looks completely crap compared to the iPhone and Android. I really can't understand why they've got rid of Symbian and then made the new Linux based OS look exactly like what they got rid of.
