Looking at getting the girlfriend a new phone for her birthday in early September and have come to these two phones. So which is better? Will be buying a new/nearly new one from eBay most likely, the Pulse can be had for quite a bit cheaper but from my (admittedly brief) research it doesn't appear to be much of a worse phone from the tech' specs'?

It'll be an upgrade from a Samsung Tocco which she hates after having a play with my Nexus One :p . Definitely want something android based and preferably with a capacitive screen :) .

Should I wait a bit longer and try get a newer Pulse (update isn't there?) or a better deal on a Magic? Or something else entirely....

Apparently the Pulse PAYG new price is quite volatile on the T Mobile site. Sometimes getting as low as around £100!

I have just ordered one on contract for the GF who is also upgrading from a Tocco.

£15pm with 300mins, unlimited texts and data and copilot sat nav kit software and kit.

This is on the T Mobile site deals page.

That is bloody good... is that 18/24 months? Might be just worth getting her a contract and giving her the money for a years worth of the contract because any SIM Only tariff is going to be worse than that. Only problem is bad signal for T-mobile in her house :( . Was hoping to unlock the Pulse and change her over to O2 (like me, get full 3G at her house).

Edit: That said.. I can get a Pulse for £85 on eBay and spend the rest of the money on something else so she feels like she's got more! :p .

The only gripe is the 24month contract length. I spent a few hours looking up all of the deals from all the networks and it seemed the best by far for a low spend. Only £180 a year which is cheap to have a mobile with 300mins and unlimited text/data (think the data fair use is 3gb). A sim only deal would be £120 a year and likely not include any data?

As T Mobile and Orange have merged they may start sharing masts etc. in the future and have better coverage. I wouldn't recommend buying a contract until this is confirmed though.

Well I can get a near-as-new Pulse on eBay for £85 so I might just go for that. She has her current contract running until Feb so she'll just swap the (T-mobile) SIM over and use it until then, before going onto SIM Only with the best deal I can find her at the time :) .

Still open to suggestions though guys!
