A 'budget' smart phone running Qualcomm's BREW OS with HTC's own Sense UI. 2.8" Touch Screen, 300MHz CPU, 256MB RAM & ROM, 3G and a 3MP Camera.

I might get this, depending on the pricing. No WiFi from the looks of things but the price of it is becoming more reasonable.

It's just a mass market touchscreen phone.

This is the HTC handset with the most modest specs sheet currently available so it should be more of a mass-market touchscreen than a full-featured smartphone.

Looks nice enough but it's nothing to shout about. You even have to press a button to change orientation, no accelerometer :(

Well, there is no exact definition but it's too close to mainstream phones to be labelled a smartphone. It doesn't have WiFi which is more or less guaranteed on a smartphone for a start. Anyway I'm not going to argue, if you have a play around with the HTC Smart and compare it to a HD2, you'll see why it isn't so smart.

Well according to Engadget's hands on, it would appear that it is aimed as a direct competitor of the Corby to get into the mass market to them move people onto other HTC Sense UI phones such as the upoming Legend and Bravo. A stepping stone of sorts.
