I've stumbled across this in my search for a new phone. There seem to be a lot of websites selling it under the name 'HTC Qtek 9100' for around £70, which for the price seems like a bargain. 2.8" Touch Screen, WiFi, QWERTY Keyboard and the ability to run Android... but i have a few questions:

  • This is actually a phone, right? Not just a PDA?
  • Assuming the above is correct, will it come unlocked?
  • Does anybody have any experiences with this that i should know about first?

Cheers :)

You can run android on it...

And at above...

It's a work in progress :p

I've been without a phone for several months now, looking between different choices. I admit that it has its faults but would it be a good 'stop gap' phone?

Really? Do you not think you're over-exaggerating a little? They way i see it it's a cheap, well built little phone that offers a lot for the price. I've used WinMo (actually, i think it was Windows CE, but it's close enough) on my Dad's old PDA and it's not exactly life ruining. On top of that it can be modded in enough ways to make it interesting.

Has anybody actually answered my original questions?

This can run WM6, with a fair bit more success than it does Android. Having a quick look around i can't see any, at least not any good ones or with a touch screen.

And i've been looking around the whole market for months, it took me this long just to find this.

I'd be planning on using PAYG, i'm a cheapskate to be honest and i don't like paying for something i don't need to. I can't really imagine a situation where i would want to use the internet where i don't have access to a wifi router. Even then Opera Mini looks promising...

Sure, a lot of etailers have '1 in stock', so i wouldn't be surprised if HTC just sent them out to get rid of them. Found a box at the back of the warehouse or something :p

I didn't say i wouldn't buy second hand, i'm just wary of what you get. Especially through eBay, used can mean anything from 'taken out of the box' to 'scratch on screen' to 'won't turn on'. It's hard to trust people on eBay in this day and age.

I might buy it, if somebody would actually answer my original questions... namely the second one?

I have looked at the Pulse, very much actually. I'm just not sure i'd take advantage of it enough to make it worth the extra. I only have a limited yearly budget and i'd like as much of it as possible to go on hardware. What else could i get for around this price? Preferably with a touch screen and wifi...
