I've stumbled across this in my search for a new phone. There seem to be a lot of websites selling it under the name 'HTC Qtek 9100' for around £70, which for the price seems like a bargain. 2.8" Touch Screen, WiFi, QWERTY Keyboard and the ability to run Android... but i have a few questions:

  • This is actually a phone, right? Not just a PDA?
  • Assuming the above is correct, will it come unlocked?
  • Does anybody have any experiences with this that i should know about first?

Cheers :)

since when did it run android ?

google says WM5

id avoid it anyway. oooold

slow cpu , lack of ram

no redeeming features really

You can run android on it...

And at above...

Err... to quote your youtube link:

"Doesn't work: Audio, WiFi, Battery level, Power management"

"Works for some people: GSM, GPRS, SMS (ie RIL)

Yeah, sounds like a great android device.

yep you can run android on pretty much ANYTHING in that kind of state

they did it over a year ago on the touch hd and it still doesnt work properly

It's a work in progress :p

I've been without a phone for several months now, looking between different choices. I admit that it has its faults but would it be a good 'stop gap' phone?

Good? Was it even good when it came out nearly FIVE years ago? Look at the specs man.. there abysmal! :D

Really? Do you not think you're over-exaggerating a little? They way i see it it's a cheap, well built little phone that offers a lot for the price. I've used WinMo (actually, i think it was Windows CE, but it's close enough) on my Dad's old PDA and it's not exactly life ruining. On top of that it can be modded in enough ways to make it interesting.

Has anybody actually answered my original questions?

I've got one in my desk somewhere, O2 sold it as the XDA mini-S. It's not 3G but it does everything else (only slower than the newer kit)

£70 is an incredible amount of money for a phone that was launched four and a half years ago.

I owned a Orange SPV C600 which on paper is very similar in power, I had it from more or less the day it came out and it was 'ok'. I sold it for £150 after a while, this is a good four years ago now.

It's just too much for some generic outdated old phone.

Exactly, there are millions of winmo6 devices all circa '07 '08 (usually all have cooked 6.5 roms) and if you can't find one second hand for less than £70 then you're simply not looking... htc have probably pumped out ~10 models on their own.

This can run WM6, with a fair bit more success than it does Android. Having a quick look around i can't see any, at least not any good ones or with a touch screen.

And i've been looking around the whole market for months, it took me this long just to find this.

In this day and age I'd happy not have wifi if it meant I actually got 3G! Not to mention the rest of the spec is over twice as good.

Yeah and thats ebay and it's used. Are you seriously telling me your buying a "brand new" HTC wizard?

I'd be planning on using PAYG, i'm a cheapskate to be honest and i don't like paying for something i don't need to. I can't really imagine a situation where i would want to use the internet where i don't have access to a wifi router. Even then Opera Mini looks promising...

Sure, a lot of etailers have '1 in stock', so i wouldn't be surprised if HTC just sent them out to get rid of them. Found a box at the back of the warehouse or something :p

So the phone is a 'stop gap' and your a cheapskate but you won't buy second hand? Why?

So many better second hand phones for £70...Bet you could get a SE P1i for that, great smart phone with everything.

But...you obviously have your heart set on this "new" htc wizard, hope you like it, don't forget to post up a review when you get it :D
