Hi, previously asked for upgrade assistance which was greatfully received, however upon further thought i dont feel comfortable doing the upgrade myself as the case/cabling seems a nightmare.

Case is Antec Fusion Remote,
AMD dual core processor 2.4ghz
3gb DDR2 Ram
Nvidia 6100gt Motherboard
Nvidia 8500gt Graphics card (about 6yrs old)

I've put a 120gb SSD as main boot drive which has made a difference to boot times, but motherboard only supports Sata 1. As the graphics card covers the PCI-E slot i cant get a faster Sata Card.

Ideally would love Sata 6gb as have 6TB hard drives in case plus SSD, USB3 would be a bonus for external enclosure. As there can be a bit of lag between accessing drives

I suspect am not going to get much joy without getting new motherboard etc but just wondered what i could do to bump the specs easily. Seems a shame to scrap the case as its quite nice. My other idea was to just get a complete new Media PC made and turn the existing one into a media server.

Any Suggestions? Thanks

cool, i wouldnt need the drives though as would use existing - however i looked in the case and theres no easy way to get to the front usb headers, and as i say am not confident in changing the motherboard. Adding new drives or changing the graphics card or installing a pci card is about my tech limit

Is there anyone who could assist?

Could link you too a video on how to?

not really - live in the back of beyond.

I've seen videos on swapping motherboards and it looks straightforward just lack the confidence to do so.

But thanks though :)

pretty much buggering the board by reconnecting something wrong lol. From what i've seen it would probably be easier if i installed the ram, cpu and cooler to the board before it goes in the case. Wouldnt need the Graphics card i have as the onboard gpu is far superior to what i have.

I think i am going to have to just do it and stop being a wuss! if i take it slow and study the manual fingers crossed shouldnt be too hard

You have a good idea of what needs to be done and that is where I would start.

Fit all the parts to the mobo outside the case using the anti-static bag which comes with the motherboard.

Take your time and double check everything you do. If you are unsure, post on there and we'll assist you.

There is not much you can do in terms of damaging the board. Just be sure to keep magnets away from the equipment and when fitting, rest your arm on the chassis to ground yourself and avoid static damage. I can't see it being too much of an issue though.

Does that help?

It does thank you! :D

will mull it over when at work and convince the otherhalf i need to order this lol.

Thanks for your help and patience!

Just checked the Ram against the motherboard compatability list and couldnt see that one listed - lots of similar numbers though will it be ok? or should i get ram that is definately on the list
1 x GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1866C10DC) £59.99

So excited - confirmed with overclockers that the Geil Ram will work with motherboard - so have ordered that basket above!! Cant wait to give this a go - should be such an improvement on my ancient machine. Have also ordered a OEM copy of windows 7 64bit to take advantage of the extra ram. Hopefully this will do me for another 6 years till something futuristic comes out lol

No doubt will post for help in installing this lol

Big day tomorrow - all the kit expected to arrive, but have to wait till i sleep (work nights) then strip everything out the case, and slowly start the new build! :D

Is there anything I should be aware of before I start? Am doing a new clean install so got all my software on usb as backup. Downloaded all the new motherboard drivers as well just in case. Also got little labels to label connectors when I unplug the old motherboard. Will give case a good clean as well lol.
