html question

hey guys, ive been fiddling about with tables to do a simplish web design but its not going very well, ive read that tables are apparently crap now with xhtml, so i was wondering, if its not very time consuming, could someone help me code something that looks like my pic, or point me to some websites that may help.

any help would be greatly appreciated

YOu're honestly best off googling this stuff as the tinterweb is packed full of css tutorials. Have a look here:

Easy to adapt that to a layout like yours.

This. You'll learn how to fix the problem and get some new skills on the way.

You could also use http://www.w3schools.com/xhtml/default.asp to get some initial skins. That and just google for certain layouts and see what you find. HTMLDog is also worth bookmarking.

Tables aren’t “crap now with XHTML”, they are the same as they always have been. XHTML just encourages you to use them for what they were designed for, i.e. displaying tabular data. For all other layout purposes use layers.
