Htpc audio over HDMI question

Ok got quite a specific problem here, so bear with me.

My TV (LG plasma) has one of those annoying 1360x768 psuedo-HD resolutions, and my av receiver (Onkyo) refuses to play audio over HDMI from my htpc when set to a resolution other than standard 720 or 1080, as it requires a proper hd resolution in order to play the sound (the video is fine!).

Therefore I've plugged an HDMI cable into the TV straight from the gpu, bypassing the AV receiver, thinking I might run another HDMI cable from the gpu to the receiver but one that only carries sound, as if it detects that the htpc is kicking out a non-standard resolution, it won't play the audio.

Optical would be an option but I like my dts-HD etc, which optical won't do. I could just run my htpc at 720p as the sound then plays fine through the amp, but it looks awful on my TV unless the pc is set to the TV's native resolution.

1. Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about

2. Any ideas if what I ask is possible, ie can I send only audio over HDMI from my graphics card?

Hope I've explained my problem properly. Trying to avoid having to replace my TV and / or receiver to fix this annoying problem!

Thanks!

Omg I've had a brainwave. Set dual monitors in settings, set one monitor (tv) to be 1360x768 and pass that to the TV, then set the other to be 720 or something and pass that to the Onkyo. Means running two HDMI cables, but at least my TV looks its best and I still get sound.

When I can be arsed to get out of bed, I'll test it and let you know.

Actually, does my gpu even have two HDMI outs?! Arghhh

Cool, thanks. Should be no probs running off Dvi and HDMI at the same time then? Before I shell out the 20 odd quid that my locals currys is asking for the adapter!
