I have been given an oldish marantz sr5200 amlifier so I was wondering of the potential of a custom 5.1 speaker system, I was thinking of using the analog outputs from my asus d2x & connecting those to the amp through the 7 channel RCA inputs using good quality 3.5mm jack to 2 RCA Cables. bering in mind that I will be using the dac from the xonar & not the amp will i still get good sound quality because I would ideally like to use good bookshelf speakers for front & rear also a good center & subwoofer budget of around £500,
Is it worth the hike ?

I'd do it, but why not use S/PDIF?

Rears don't need to be as good as the fronts.

Indeed I am looking at a pair of MORDAUNT SHORT 902i for front & a pair of WHARFEDALE DIAMOND 9.0 for rear then buy center & bass later & as for S/PDIF well it looks good on paper but personally for a 5.1 setup i think it sux it just dont work right!. apart from going hdmi and buying a new amp & tv analog would be my only choice
