So I'm running out of space slowly but surely on my always on HTPC.

I was looking at getting a couple of 4TB drives and wondered a couple of things...

1) Are the prices of 4TB drives looking to come down any time soon?

2) Advantages of taking say a WD Red over a WD Green?

I have 2x2TB that are almost filled, I cleared out some old stuff that I decided I didn't want/need a while back to free up some space and it's creeping back up to the limit. I did think about getting 2x3TB but figured I'd be better off with the 4's.

You need to work out which is most cost affective for me the 3TB is cheaper per TB than the 4TB drives if i worked it out correctly and i dont keep many old films on the drive once i am bored of them

Get a NAS, or an external drive?
4TB may well drop very soon since 8-10TB drives are on the horizon from all manufacturers. But it might take a little while yet. Im hoping it happens soon, since ive already cleared out my 10.9TB array and ive only got 350gb left free on it :(

I use the seagate NAS 4TB drives. I paid £135 a drive must be 12 - 18 months ago. Current price £124. Not much movement really.

NAS drives, better for always on, 24/7 use.

The plan is to get a microserver (something along the lines of an N54L) eventually but for now I'm just after upgrading my current available space.

Thanks guys.

I think drive prices are fixed myself as theres normally only £5 difference from one seller to another

Also the one show was talking about how we get ripped off in this country for electronics
