HTPC Media Centre probs

I had some old bits lying around at work and decided to buy a cheap case and build a media centre

Consists of

Ram 2gb OCZ Plat PC3200
San Diego 3700+ S939 1mb 2.2ghz
Maxtor 250gb HDD

Ive set it up and running using Vista Ult 32bit, it seems fine running as a pc but even playing a 350mb divx file it's stuttering, i thought it would be able to manage that at least?

Any ideas?

Vista scores are something like

CPU 4.2
Ram 4.1
Aero 3.5
Gaming 2.7
HDD 5.4

Codecs installed? Try VLC player.
