Firstly Merry Christmas,

My new HTPC is having some teething problems
Everything is fine upto the point that i try to play DVD etc [it just hangs] All the software ive tried using gives the same message "Not responding ...."

System is :

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2018 MHz (20 x 101)

Motherboard Name Asus P4S8L (2 PCI, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN, IEEE-1394)

Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (256 MB)

Thanks to anyone who has time to help and once again Merry Christmas

"Direct Memory Access"... I think.

Make sure it's enabled in your BIOS.

Basically PIO is the old, slow mode. I don't think it offers enough bandwidth for DVD playback so perhaps it's stuck on that?

If you go into hardware manager within Windows and then IDE controllers the Windows DMA/PIO settings can be found there.

Was set on DMA if available.Even playing a downloaded video clip it hangs.Spent the day trying to solve this thing

Download Memtest86 and create the bootable CD with it.
Obviously use a different PC to do the above.

You can use this to test your memory. Instructions are on the memtest website.
