what do people think? should be good enough for Vista Media Centre yeah?

I would consider the HD 2600 Pro since, IIRC, it has hardware for decoding H.264 which might be a boon to HTPC performance.

The SATA cables are unnecessary; the mobo comes with enough of them.

IMO those fans are a bit pants. Sure, they're quiet, but that's becasue they don't flow any air whatsoever.

I was under the impression the 2400 did this also? could you link to one that you think would be suitable please?

I just had a quick look at ATI's website. It appears that you are indeed correct. This function is present in all the HD 2xxx line. The one you've got there will be just fine. :)

As far as fans, if you want something that's quiet and still flows a reasonable amount of air, look for the Yate Loon D12SL-12, preferrably in sexeh black and orange. These are very cheap and dead silent at 7V. I love mine.
