HTPC OS

I use windows, but primarily because the TV card I use had driver issues with Linux. If I was starting again, I would start by choosing a TV card that linux likes out of the box, and then running myth tv on linux

Got one running windows 7, one running Linux Mint (Lisa) and one just running XBMC live.

Choice depends on hardware and wants of the system.

Windows 7. MediaPortal doesn't work on any other OS and Windows also allows CUDA hardware decoding and hardware deinterlacing via LAV Filters, which can be used with EVR or MadVR for great quality playback.

Windows 7, disabled all the junk and it runs sweet even on my low powered system with an AMD Athlon x2 5000+ and 2GB RAM.

Depends on what HTPC tasks the box is doing ...downstairs HTPC is running Win7 as it handle the dual freeview tuners fine. Upstairs HTPC runs OSX with Plex.

i use windows 7 because I am familiar with it and a lot of the drivers just works with it like my remote imon, and also because other software which only work on windows.

i have disable a lot of junk and have it setup to auto lunch XBMC

Windows 7 Media Center, plus MediaBrowser.

Native WMC stuff for live TV-based stuff (Guide, recording from Freeview HD), MediaBrowser for all other TV/Film files.

Win7 here also, and basically nothing else on the HTPC other than XBMC and WHS Dashboard. I prefer Windows for the familiarity also.

I tried ubuntu but it was a complete nightmare, seeing as I had no prior experience with Linux. So unless you, or a friend, has, dont try it :P I did have it running ok, but any small change I needed to make on the PC just stumped me completely.

Windows 7 with XBMC Eden. I use an ATI card which are a lot easier to sort with Windows. It works fine for me and is quick enough so I don't feel a need to change.
