In the process of completing my HTPC build [well all the bits are here] Could you tell me or recommend a Remote Control system for a HTPC.

Thx

I use the Microsoft Media centre remote (remote and USB IR receiver) works well and can place the receiver on your racking, even if the HTPC is out of line of sight. £23 or thereabouts.

Oh if youuse a learning remote, learn the codes from the MS remote into it, then put the MS remote away you'll need to do the toggle bit fix in the registry.

MS Remote is the best imo! I've had one for 1.5 years now, works flawless very good signal reception, still using the same batteries as well!!!

p.s. does anyone know how to re-program the buttons in Windows XP, so i can assign other functions to some of those lower buttons?

If you can find discrete codes it should allow you to do things, I have discrete IR codes for "My Music" "My Videos" and "My Photos" so it jumps to that section, regardless where you are. It even works for Media Portal (which is far better than the MC front end)

It's a shame the MC remote doesn't have all the MC keyboard buttons, but I have both anyway (grab whatever's nearest!)

I dont specifically have a HTPC but i do use the ATI remote wonder and have done for a couple of years. its pretty good remote, all the normal buttons you find on any other remote, plus 6 (i think) programmable buttons. uses RF instead of IR so will work anywehre in your house lol

doesnt work in WMC though as far as i know??
