Can anyone recommend some good software for my htpc.
I uset to have msi media centre with my old htpc but was looking at other free alternatives.

Any suggestions?

cheers

Have dloaded both and will give them a test on my main rig to see which one I prefer but at the moment both are looking good.

I found media portal the only real alternative to MCE, but it had too many niggles for me to use it instead...

MythTV is a knoppix based distro, but im not familiar with linux so wasnt brave enough to try it, maybe worth a mention ?

I use Meedio.

Unfortunately its not the best quality and lacks picture adjustment features.

Media portal is probably the better player, but Meedio works on 2nd display.

I just tried that GBPVR, and it keeps crashing when I press stop.
I'll tinker with it a bit cos it looks okay, apart from the OSD which looks tacky.

Media Portal is a better HTPC, but it has a few niggles itself, Media Centre "does the job" and probably better suited for a noon htpc builder.

Used Showshifter a couple of years back - excellent and great TV card support.

Dirt cheap for what it does too!
