HTPC software?

Stock, and when the disc starts the clock speed goes from its low idling speed to full speed.

Overclock it! And take off that throttle management rubbish in the bios and have it run at full speed at the time.

E2xxx chips can OC nicely on default voltage and even more when you give it some juice. I've OC'ed mine 1.0Ghz without touching the voltage

go for it :)

I could, but what would be the point? My brief for the box was that it needs to dish out media in the living room without making a racket. I have the processor being cooled quite comfortably by a Scythe Mini-Ninja, a Sharkoon fan on the HS and one 92mm fan at the front. It is (nearly) silent and the temperatures are acceptable. If I was to overclock it it would be noisier and hotter, with no added benefit for what I designed it for.

there's no need to disable C1E, running 100% all of the time is for tools especially for a HTPC which is overclocked.

i have a 2180 running @ 3.2ghz in my HTPC with C1E enabled.....the power kicks in when needed, there's no downside to using power management. :)

Would it not run slower with C1E enabled?

When i say 100% i didnt mean that the CPU is working 100% - i meant its running at its rated speed and not underclocked when at idle.

yeh i know what you meant, with C1E enabled the processor kicks in to full speed when needed and back to low power when it's not.

all it does is ramp the multiplier up and down as/when needed, it's instantaneous...there's no performance hit.

I went the Event Ghost way, using that to emulate keyboard presses. What's the difference between that and your software?

Nothing really - as far as I am aware. Mine is bespoke software for the PS3 Remote only - so probably has easier setup - though I have never used Event Ghost so could be wrong.

Has SMS input via the number buttons on the remote too - if that means anything to you?

Not really, but I'm probably not the audience you were thinking about when you wrote this program. I'm only really using it until I decide which wireless keyboard I want - Logitech mini or the big DiNovo :)

ive noticed no adverse side affects from the speed management on my laptop. actually it works very effectively and only drops power usage even more, which is great for no effort at all. There's no need to run a cpu at full pelt all the time.

As to the original question.
I've tried em all, and imo VMC is the best (if setup correctly). And with the TV pack, its even better.
