Hi all,

Just wondering if there is any decent open source operating sytems about that will be useful for HTPC set-up

Let me explain my set-up

Location A (my old house) hosts my VMWare host, ESXi server with multiple VMs, I have a 70mb down and 19.5mb up FTTC circuit there, one of the VM's hosts my Plex media server

Location B (where I am living now) - I have purchased a £25 dell 755 small form factor PC, stuck an E8400 3ghz dual core wolfdale CPU in, and have 4GB RAM with a passive GPU.

This will be my HTPC, I need an OS that will allow me to VPN from this box (without using a router/firewall based VPN) to my server in location A and run plex.

I was just thinking about sticking a copy of Windows 7 and be done with it, gives me the room to use it for most tasks, VPN, easy web browsing (if needed which wont be a lot) and can browse straight to my plex server and stream stuff.

My question, is there any open source stuff that is designed as a media OS, that will allow me to take control of VPN, browsing, browsing to my plex portal and lots of other features?
