Hi, I've just been giving a laptop to fix for a m8 and he has asked me just to wipe it and reinstall windows

The problem though i've seen before and I don't know how to fix it. Basically no webpage will load using internet explorer or firefox. Ive reinstalled network stuff on control panel which allowed me to ping the router and then ping the outside world with google.com all worked fine. I even ran a tracert on google.com and brang back the normal about 8-10 results.

Nothing else seems to work. I've looked at all the network configs, all fine, has an IP, Gateway and subnet mask.

Anyone know what this issue is? Its on a Windows XP home if that matters.

Cheers guys,

Kurt

Hmm ping uses ICMP not TCP/UDP so you may be having a problem with those protocols.

I can't give a definite solution but:

Firewalls - blocking browser traffic, blocking browser applications, router firewall
Browsers - proxy settings

But if he has told you to wipe it.. why not just wipe it?

Remove whatever security software he's got installed then if it still don't work:

netsh winsock reset

from a command prompt.

If it STILL don't work, check your MTU values on the laptop and router.
