Huawei ID - do I need one ?

Just got my Honor 9 Lite. Seemed to be a very long winded initial set-up process, during which I was asked to set up a Huawei ID. Why would I need this on top of my google account ? Going into the Huawei account screen now, there is an option to delete it. Should I, and what would the implications be if I did ? All a bit confusing - on my old 1st Gen Moto G with generic Android there was just the google sign-in, and of course on my Windows 10 phone just the Microsoft account sign-in.

EDIT: Oh, and I have installed Microsoft Launcher so don't use EMUI.

It's optional, same as Samsung.

Thanks - from what I can see, the only real benefits are 5GB free cloud storage, and locate my phone where you can remotely erase and lock it etc. Is that locate my phone etc functionality also available in your Google account for example ?

Had a P20 for a few months, not bothered with it.

Yep it is install this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.adm if it isn't already installed.

Thanks guys, fantastic advice to someone with very little Android experience. One more question - there is an app there just called "email". Is that a Huawei app ? I've used the Gmail app.
