Hubris from Intel?

Interesting times with Nvidia rumoured to be getting in to the CPU segment too.

Whether you love them or hate them, Nvidia has always been leading the advancements in GPU technology and they could really disrupt the segment with a gaming orientated CPU. They'd need to convince Microsoft and or Valve to join the next revolution.

Intel will gain from any growth in the market as they control the lions share and have so much IP in everything they get paid regardless. Outside of maybe Apple getting into the server/DC/WS markets in a big way, ARM simply isn’t a threat to Intel.

The CEO is dismissing ARM as a threat. He might do well to remember that Windows is already running on ARM. And that Apple switched to ARM. And that AMD is eating its lunch in the x64 server space.

Given Intel lives and dies on x86 I'm not sure what else he's expected to say.

Well Intel is able to make Arm chips as well, they just don't want to but they've done engineering samples to test it already

It makes sense for them to dismiss arm even if internally they think it's a big threat because they need to maximise their x86 duopoly for shareholder value

He was just as dismissive of AMD's server processors, now Intel are selling theirs at below cost just to stop AMD taking every inch of marketshre.

The guy is an idiot, and he only realises how wrong he was until its far too late.

Please provide the link where he dismissed AMD's EPYC chips thanks

There was also one where he said "AMD are in the rear view mirror" His own BoD told him to walk that back as it was obvious to anyone with even a passing interest that this was blatantly not true.

What a stupid statement.

For productivity, MacBooks dominate and ARM has a lot to do with that. I’d probably move back to Windows/Linux if there was a decent ARM based laptop.

He might have been referring to when they mocked the first gen Zen chips as being "glued" together.
And for the past few years they've changed their tune slightly: anytime-soon©™, Intel will have the best packaging glue ever!

Of course, past failures or over-hyping are in no way an indication of future failures!

That's nothing to do with them being ARM based though. That's the benefit of having tight integration of the OS and apps, making use of the various hardware acceleration features in Apple's chips, rather than anything specific to the ARM architecture.
