***Hudl2***

I popped into the local Tesco at lunchtime to grab a sandwich and noticed they had an end of isle display with a couple of Hudl 2's. Had a quick play and unfortunately came away disappointed.
The display looked fantastic and build quality looked good, but performance looked shocking. They were running some slide show demo software, but you could dismiss it with the "try it now" button and instantly it looked poor. Dismissing the demo software to go to the home screen was a jerky, laggy transition and once there just swiping between the home screens was just as laggy.
It may be the demo software being poorly implemented causing issues, but as a quick experience of a new tablet it was not a good first impression.

This was in the Coventry Cross-Point superstore, but I would guess all big Tesco's will have displays up now.

I had exactly the same experience with a demo unit today. I left feeling rather disappointed after reading all the positive reviews :( It's good to know that changing the launcher fixes the issue though.

Is scrolling in Chrome smoother on content-heavy sites like www.theverge.com after changing the launcher? That site in particular performed badly on the demo unit.

I don't know why their demo units are always laggy. I bought two as Xmas presents for my children and the interface on theirs is as slick as you'd ever like. Don't judge them by the demo units!!

We bought my son one for Xmas failed after two days, camera never worked, it also stoped charging. The volume keys then started working on there own etc. Anyway took it in to Tesco, where we we are asked to phone up there helpline their and then on the landline. Got given a ref number and were able to swap it out for a new one. Happy with that. Now we were also told that the reason that they don`t do straight swap outs even if only a few weeks old and that you need to a ref number is that the usual scheming British public were taking back Hudl1s back before the year was out and claiming they were knackered and getting full refunds to buy the Hudl2s !

Both our kids got HUDL2's to replace their aging Nexus 7's..

I was honestly not expecting much for the money, but have been very pleasantly surprised, the screen quality and audio is excellent, and it's very responsive, the CPU/RAM seem a good combo for this..

They have got the soft touch cases, which does, combined with the tablet make them rather heavy, but that's a minor complaint since I'd rather they had them protected as much as possible!

We've got 3 of these now and they are amazing bits of kit.

Stick the google now launcher on and they are brilliant. Battery life isn't quite as good as my G2 N7 but for 65 each they are a steal!

In response to my previous message, I tried another Hudl 2 today and it was running 4.4.2. I have no idea whether the first one I tried was running 4.4.4, but today's demo went a lot better. The performance was definitely adequate and it was only the Tesco/BT WiFi that let the side down.

I thought that the display could have perhaps been a bit brighter, but I think the lighting in Tesco was much brighter than any situation I will be in.

Bought a hudl2 myself.

Anyone notice any slowdown when its been left on for 24hrs+ a reboot seems to return it to normal speed.

Also reccomend an app called GMD Immersive to make full use of the screen.

Does this look right? My Hudl seems to warm up in standby and eat battery :(

This is a standard Android thing, the Android OS being such high usage indicates some App is consuming loads of resources in the background..

The immediate things I do on any Android Device are

1. Turn off location
2. If not needed, under Wi-Fi->Advanced set it to turn off wifi when sleeping
3. Turn off Bluetooth

If you want Location/Bluetooth, then use the quick toggle buttons you get when dragging down from the top right..

Then it's a case of looking at what apps are 'running' and trying to suss what might be using the power..

You could start by posting all apps reported under 'running' in the Settings->Apps menu..

My daughters HUDL2 shows:

Cheers.
Thought I would reset it to defaults and give it a full charge.
Its now got 50% battery after been on standby for 10hrs.

Contacted Tesco who said it wasn't faulty, Then spoke to a manager that arranged a replacement.

Hope the replacement is better

What's the issue here? My Hudl is stuck at 32% battery charge.

I've reset the device and it's charging as normal again. Is this a hardware or software issue?
