Hi guys,

I'd really thought I'd hit the Overclocknig ceiling with my AMD 6000+ at 3.33Ghz. I've been googling a bit since most activity on here is Intel based, and I've found someone on AMDgeeks that has overclocked this CPU by 36% at 4.06Ghz! It seems genuine, with CPUZ validation, similar to how we validate our 3DMark06 scores.
It gives details of the settings like FSB, vcore etc:

CPU : AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (*1)
CPU Arch : 2 Cores - 2 Threads
CPU PSN : AMD Processor model unknown
CPU EXT : MMX (+) 3DNow! (+) SSE SSE2 SSE3 x86-64
CPU Cache : L1 : 2 x 64/2 x 64 KB - L2 : 2 x 1024 KB

This isn't too disimilar form my setup, I have the 570 chipset and have 5300RAM - 4GB. Just wondering what has made me hit a wall of 3.33Ghz?

Yah, that guy has it running at 1.6v, im at 1.45v atm, ram voltage at 2.2v. Would I need to adjust the Chipset/PCIe voltage as other voltages on the system increase?

They'll probably have used phase to reach that.

Jokester

Done bit of homework now, yes Jokester, you're dead right. I though it was a mistake when I first saw his idle/load temps!

Cooling category: Phase change / prometia cooling
Cool'n'quiet: No
Idle/load temperature: -10 °C / 10 °C

I don't think I'll be upgrading my cooling but at least I now know these chips are capable of a decent overclock so can push it more, just keeping an eye on core temp.

He must have gone through a few cpu's to find one that is'nt cold bugged. One thing to keep in mind though, it's one thing to be able to boot into windows to grab a cpu-z validation. It's quite a different thing to boot at the same clock and run Orthos for 8hrs clear.

True mate - if it cant get through an overnight session of Prime then I wont be having it, must be stable. My sights arent that high, I'd like to get to 3.5Ghz though. and I wouldn't be happy about "freezing" any part of my PC to be honest. lol

on phaze i beleive the C2ds rocket up into the clock speeds. Cant give you an exact figure but i weouldn't be suprised if someone is on 5.5 to 6ghz with a 6850. Id say the mobo would be more of a limit as if it can take such high FBS. But with the unloiciked multiplyer i gues that helps. 12x500 wiould give 6ghz if you were lucky on phaze.
