Huge CPU Temperature Mismatch [Could Be Mobo?]

Hey guys,

This morning my CPU package idle temps nearly doubled. It was idling at 23 to 25ºC the last few days, now it reads 48-52.

The strange thing is the individual core temps have not changed, and look fine.

Here's a pic:

Considering the individual idle temps have not changed, only the overall package reading, could this be a sensor error?

If so, does it mean the mobo needs replacing (facepalm), or are there ways to fix?

Any help would be appreciated! Worth noting that when in the BIOS, the single temp reading reads similar to the overall package - high.

what cooler are you using? Im sure the CPU package temp is the socket temp on the motherboard. do you have good airflow in youre case?

Noctua NH-15 with 2 fans (using low fan noise adapter).

Yes, airflow is great. Room temp is cool too. Nothing has changed since yesterday and it's shot up out of the blue.

P.S. CPU fans are running at 680 RPM. Exhaust air is cool too...

Whack the fans on max for a while and see if the package reading changes at all.

Could just be a dodgy sensor or software bug.

When I ran a stress test the individual cores shot up as expected but the overall CPU reading stayed exactly the same. Most certainly a sensor error.

The frustrating thing is in an attempt to fix it by updating the BIOS (going from 1202 to 1402), it messed the entire system up. I think the RAM has died. Will know for sure when a temporary replacement arrives tomorrow.
