Huge gap in idle temps between cores

I'm asking for a friend that has 3770k.
Idle temps on 2 of the cores differ by 15-20 degrees (between coolest and hottest cores).
Is this normal for Ivy ?

Also, AS5 used and cooler re-replaced to see if TIM/contact was bad. No change. Coolermaster 212 evo.

Most cpus report inaccurate temps below a certain level. One of your cores is simply below this threshold. A difference of 15-20c suggest below ambient, which you'll know is impossible. Simply ignore such readings.

So, what this means in terms of overclocking ? Nothing extreme, but still, faulty temp sensor may be a cause of a serious overheat, no ? Would you return this cpu to seller ? (we are talking prebuilt machine).

Is something like this considered a fault in retail ?

Not the norm i would say. about 10 degrees is possible sometimes but over that id be worried if say it was reporting this in coretemp.

Ivys btw are i think having issues at the plant where the thermal paste under the heatspreader on the cpu isnt applied correctly which is why ivys are a bit toasty could be a problem related to that perhaps.

We did use CoreTemp with Grapher plugin to monitor temps.
Should he consider a return ?

Here, he's loading it and check the min temp on core3, this is normal to his cpu...

Even if plant has problems with production, cores cant be equal or below room temperature when operating, even if at idle... no matter the sort of defect...

as already mentioned, a gap between core temps is perfectly normal.
my Q6600 has often 10.C difference between the hottest and coolest core.
also idle temps really mean nothing, load temps are a better indicator.
going by your prime run, your temps are fine, only 7.C difference.
let in run for atleast 10 mins to get a better average temp

That's weird but the only thing i'd concern myself with would be the max temps when under load. They look normal enough when stressed so that 17c one at idle i'd think is just a weird glitch or somit because they even out more or less when they are at load in prime.

Wouldn't worry about it, i thought the problem was that one core was way too high compare to the others like 50/75/53/56 or somit if at load but thats not the case here.
