***HUGE INTEL PRICE DROP - Over £200 Price Drop - See Inside!***

Still not sure how the SandyBridge SATA problem will impact the price of 1156/1366 cpus/mobos.

Will they hold their price better as people are reluctant to adopt 1155/SB?
Or will they continue to fall as retailers compete to sell their old stock prior to the fixed 1155 boards becoming available in a few months time?

Think I might hold fire on my new build for a month or two and see how it pans out.

Cracking price on the i7 960 though, if they go sub-£200 (Including Heatsink & Thermal Paste!) anytime soon I might not be able to resist any longer...

An impressive price drop, but an echo to what people have said here... You can still get SB for almost the same price but the issue with SB is the mobo's :S

Difficult choice.

£460 for a 6 core intel cpu, finally they are getting cheaper now cut another £260 off that and bring it into the mainstream market.

Same situation here, mate. If only we had a firm date for the release of the new mobos then it would be easier to decide. Been saving up for my new system for quite some time and have all the money now. It just feels a bit weird to buy a mobo when you know you will RMA in such a short space of time.

Oh well... another couple of months, eh?

Is it worth selling my old QX9650 (don't use anymore) & my new i7 950 to get the i7 970?
Would it be as simple as swapping out the 950 for the 970 on my Ramp 3 Ext mobo & H70 cooler?

Cheers

about time intel brought their prices down tbh

Absolutely, but I fear that :

1. The CougarPoint fiasco will keep cpu & mobo prices artificially high when they do finally reappear (compared to the reductions we'd usually see 3-6 months from release)

2. Intel will have just lost ~$1billion, and will have to try and recover some of that somehow. Hopefully some serious competition from AMD's Bulldozer will make them stay competitive.

3. It may not be until Ivybridge's release that the top-end Sandybridge CPUs fall from 'enthusiast' prices.

I hope I'm 100% wrong, but apart from the CougarPoint issue, Sandybridge is far too good (and way ahead of the competition) for Intel to heavily discount any time soon.
