Was just wondering if anyone has ever been so dissapointed with a game that it has put them off gaming for good?

I used to be a really avid gamer back in the day but now can't seem to get as excited about games as I used to, I sometimes don't even bother loading up a game for months on end.

I think the turning point was back in 1999 with the release of Ultima Ascension. After being a huge fan of the Ultima series and loving Ultima 7 (+ expansions), I really believed the hype about how great ultima 9 would be after the dissapointment of Pagan which I thought was ok.... The game was heavily delayed which I assumed could only be a good thing as they were spending time to make it better. I must have spent countless hours on the official site reading the forums religiously every day for any new tidbit about the game. Unfortunately what was released was a rushed and buggy afair that was not even close to the previous games in term of depth and story. Needless to say that after playing it for about half an hour I uninstalled the game and put it away. To this day I have not had the heart to even look at it again.

So has anyone been so dissapointed by a game it has ruined their enthusiasm for gaming? Will we ever see the same level of quality on the PC again as we had with Baldur's Gate, Wing Commander series, and Lucasarts adventure games? I'm not too sure.... Maybe only Duke Nukem Forever can save me... Well that and Dragon Age, but I won't hold my breath.

Knights of the Old Republic 2.....Greatest let down of all time considering how awesome the first one was.

CoD2, couldnt get into it as much as UO. It was still a class game, but it just wasnt as good kinda.

Oblivion (good job i didnt buy it)
Deus Ex 2 (managed to get so far somehow and just quit because their was no motivation to go any further.
Unreal Tournament 3 (Gameplay wise its ok but the campaign is total tosh and so is the multiplayer, much prefer Quake.)
Grand theft auto series (doesnt do anything for me on PC, bores me to death, however if im playing it on a console with a controller its a whole differant experience)
Test Drive Unlimited (same as above really, great on console, crap port to pc needs a controller)
DoW Soulstorm - Nothing like the first and its gotten boring now, should have been introduced more quickly as the engine is pretty old now)

plus a whole shed of MMORPG's that i have beta tested and payed for over the years that are just too poor to comprehend. DaoC being one of the worst.

i just hope Warhammer isnt a load of tosh seeing as the DaoC team are working on it, seem to be looking forward to this one.

Can’t say I’ve had many let downs, especially this year. If I am let down, it’s because release dates are pushed back. But if it improves the game on release day, then it makes it even more satisfying.

Only real let down was STALKER, but that was probably because I had such high hopes for the game. And already pictures what the whole game would be like, but it was radically different. Few months later I started to enjoy it though.

Crysis for me was a major let down, not just on the performance side but the game it self was disapointing.UT3 just for the lack of servers/players, infact only games that have kept me coming back for more are BF2142 LOTRO and ofcourse CSS:)

Lucasarts adventure games (e.g. Monkey Island series) stopped a while ago but sam and max has popped up recently

You've only let yourself down there. Quite easy to buy a controller. :)

i have thought about it, but GTA4 is out soon and i have just bought a 360. dont really want a controller for PC. i mostly just enjoy driving around and shooting people
