Was just wondering if anyone has ever been so dissapointed with a game that it has put them off gaming for good?
I used to be a really avid gamer back in the day but now can't seem to get as excited about games as I used to, I sometimes don't even bother loading up a game for months on end.
I think the turning point was back in 1999 with the release of Ultima Ascension. After being a huge fan of the Ultima series and loving Ultima 7 (+ expansions), I really believed the hype about how great ultima 9 would be after the dissapointment of Pagan which I thought was ok.... The game was heavily delayed which I assumed could only be a good thing as they were spending time to make it better. I must have spent countless hours on the official site reading the forums religiously every day for any new tidbit about the game. Unfortunately what was released was a rushed and buggy afair that was not even close to the previous games in term of depth and story. Needless to say that after playing it for about half an hour I uninstalled the game and put it away. To this day I have not had the heart to even look at it again.
So has anyone been so dissapointed by a game it has ruined their enthusiasm for gaming? Will we ever see the same level of quality on the PC again as we had with Baldur's Gate, Wing Commander series, and Lucasarts adventure games? I'm not too sure.... Maybe only Duke Nukem Forever can save me... Well that and Dragon Age, but I won't hold my breath.
