Hugo Energy App for Smart Meters

I use the Bright app which pulls data from the smart meter “cloud”. It’s very good providing from 30 minute to monthly breakdowns. Much better than the Octopus data which is always a day behind for me.

Budgets for energy are pointless imo. You use what you use. You cant just stop using energy once you’ve hit your budget.
I think Hugo set its own budget in my case.

I don't agree though. If one knows where they are against their budget they can investigate possible improvements to reduce usage. It also might hint at a faulty item using too much power.

I'll give this a whirl, thanks. Had been annoyed that my previous day's electric usage for the previous day doesn't show until around 10am and then gas usage even later at 4pm. Was definitely about to hunt for something closer to real-time.

I wouldn't mind waiting a day for 30s data, the extra detail will help identify what devices were consuming.
If you are on octopus can't you get real time data anyway -> https://guylipman.medium.com/accessing-your-octopus-smart-meter-data-3f3905ca8fec

some similar options glowstick/n3rgy/geo , which also appear to use an intermediary who accesses dcc data

some new 30s data options if you have a trio IHD with edf looks like £19 for a wireless module, or chameleon ihd costs £50.

A Consumer Access Device or CAD is a cloud-connected secure smart meter gateway device that accesses real-time energy data from smart meters and sends that data to a designated cloud service.

The steps are:

  1. Every few seconds the electricity meter sends data to the communication hub over the Intimate Communications Hub Interface.
  2. Every 30 minutes the gas meter sends data to the communication hub over the HAN (Home Area Network).
  3. The CAD receives the data over the HAN.
  4. If the CAD has a display it can provide the data visually.
  5. The CAD sends the data over WiFi to a cloud storage service.
Until recently Green Energy Options Ltd only dealt with suppliers, but they have now introduced a WiFi module to plug into the back of their Trio Touchbutton IHD which is often supplied as part of the Smart Meter installation. The cost of the module is £19.95

Hi all,

How are you finding the Huge app?

My IHD was working fine with my then provider who installed it but since i switched providers, it now keeps showing in the red even with very very low usage i.e. everything off apart from standard items i.e. fridge etc. The actual usage showing is correct but the graphic display shows Red. I've tried messing with it, increasing budget to like £20 a day (which I don't use anywhere near) but still shows in Red... so i left it unplugged for a while, tried it again and still the same. Played with it a bit more over xmas and now it doesn't boot up properly now, it seems to have lost connection to the smart meter I think so I've basically given up with it now and I'm considering moving to either:-

Bright App and getting the Glowmarkt Display and CAD OR signing up to Hugo app and see how it goes? Which app do people rate more/is better?

Hugo app hasn't been around too long so bit dubious by that, also the Bright Display & CAD is bit pricey so not sure its worth the cost? But maybe be useful for a visual display to avoid keep checking mobile if at home but mobile useful if away/not at home or to check history i.e. if I suddenly get a higher bill, I can check the usage history and see when it started to go up and why i.e. was it just colder then or has my Elec usage goes up, which could point to a faulty device somewhere that's potentially on the way out (Had this with a old freezer once, it started to use more and more power compared to previous years, was over 15 years old so replaced it and all fine).

As my IHD isn't working, can I still provide the number on the back and they will accept it or would i need to provide credit card info?

How good are the apps, last time I look the Bright app didn't look as good as Hugo but just checking the website, seem it now looks different so maybe they have improved it?

Is Hugo app any good?

Can i use the app on multiple devices and both devices have access at the same time say i.e mobile, tablet or 2 mobiles (if I let family member be able to view/monitor usage?)

Thanks

Kev
