Hull - Weather - flooding.

We all wish, its always been a hole.

Not a very welcome comment considering the circumstances and a lot of hulls population losing a lot of belongings and property to the weather

Reports from Sheffield are that a petrol station at Meadowhall has exploded, unconfirmed but there's mention of it on the Sheffield Star's site. Both the river Don and Sheaf have burst their banks and major flooding in various areas around the city including the city centre.

There's breaking news on Sky at the minute, that 2 RAF helicopters have been scrambled to the Brightside/Don Valley area as there are 20 people trapped on a roof, which is starting to collapse. Never seen anything like this, especially the rain.

yeah a mate of mine works for the post office on Brightside Lane and it doesn't look like he'll be able to get home tonight, suppose he could always lean out of his office window and wave at the people stuck on the roof :p

Why didn't they just give him a length of hose to breath through or even a breathing set as their supposed to even work well enough under water?

This is what I couldn't understand.
If youd seen the speed at which the water was rushing down this drain, then maybe it wasnt possible? I dont know.

just behind Meadowhall
I live a 4 minutes walk from Meadowhall

Sheffield road leading to Rotherham is closed. Pretty bad stuff :(

Wicker is meant to be choca-bloc!

Why on earth didn't they just have his leg off ?

Is it better to have one leg or to be dead ?

Or just give him an oxygen tank and mask.

Edit: Just read the story again, it makes no sense to me in this day and age that someone drowns without efforts to give him oxygen with a diver beside him, at least until water levels drop or they can rescue him from being trapped.

Yeah The Don has risen over Lady's Bridge and Wicker is waist deep in water, my mate got sent home from Meadowhall at 4, she's stuck in traffic trying to get out of town. Been there for nearly 3 and half hours now.

It would be impossible to perform amputative surgery in such a situation out in the public, in sewage water. They could have gave him a divers oxygen tank to wear though?

I think they did - one report i heard was that he died from the coldness of having your whole body submerged in water

Yes, either way it is tragic news and it must have been an absolute awful situation. There were also reports that the emergency services could have done more but you never know unless you were actually there I guess.

Surely though you'd just hack the damn leg off? Better than dying, I would have thought.

We had to let the patient die lest he come down with a nasty infection.
