Hungarian Leg Blast

I want to start this today, but I'm a bit confused. When I read the article, it sounded like performing several squats in the allotted time because it mentioned going up explosively, but the post above mentions a single squat (and I remember thinking when I first saw this thread, is it a single squat?)

Which is it? :)

You do squats for up to 8 minutes without racking the weight.

You starting off at 2 minutes and doing the routine how it says? Let me know how you get on, i've had to postpone doing it because i'm trying squatting to failure in line with my HIT routine.

Thanks. Yes, I'm starting off at two minutes. I'm just doing the squats part of the man's routine though, not the extensions & curls he also does.

I'm using a leverage machine at home, so it's not the same as standard squats. Rather than racking them when done, I just let the bar go a bit lower than for the bottom of the squat, and it rests on a (thick) retaining pin. It's easier than normal squatting because I just have a downwards force to contend with/don't have to stabilise the bar. That's why I'm going to use more than 30%, to try to compensate for that and make it as difficult as it would be for someone with just a bar & rack.

I'm sure it'll still be amusing to say the least :D

Looking forward to see how you get on, make sure you keep us posted.

Right, I did a minute of stretching then got on with it. I like doing any sort of exercise slowly, so I decided that if I got to the end and was still in the middle of a rep, I'd complete it.

Results: 2m, 2.4 secs. 13 full squats.

I went for 50kg, and to avoid any possible whinging from the purists on here about my machine, for arguments sake let's say that's only equal to 25kg normal. (Next time I pass a gym I'm going in as a guest to do a few squats the normal way and see exactly what sort of ratio exists.)

I definitely felt a pinch from it, but I wouldn't say it's all that taxing. I reckon my legs will be fully back to normal in a few minutes, so I'm going to try again on 60kg sometime in the next hour. I'll report back soon after.

/Oh yeah, I went up 'explosively' to begin with as the article mentioned, but that made my knees click a bit (think I was straightening my legs too much) so I calmed it down after the first three reps.

Hehehe, it had more of an effect than I thought! I just went down to try again on a higher weight. I realised my thighs were still slightly numb, but I thought "I'm here now, might as well do it anyway." I decided not to up it to 60kg though, seeing as it was the second set and I'm only supposed to do one. I did 14 squats this time, 2m 4.7s. My legs are like jelly now! :D

I'll go to 60kg on Thursday, and even if it still seems a bit easy I'll stick with it, as if I keep upping that and the time, I'll soon come undone.

I'd go for upping the time personally because a 13/14 rep squat is fairly common. Looking forward to seeing how this goes for you :D

I think i'm going to give this a go soon... I like simple routines. My squatting hasn't improved much either in the last few weeks so probably time to freshen things up.

the first one to get to 5 minutes or more...please video it so we can all get a laugh at the pain or your face...LOL

My time went up to 3m on Thursday. There's a big difference between 2m and 3m. I'm having to push myself on willpower a bit towards the end. I'm confident of succeeding on the next week, but not sure about after that.

I contemplated taking the day off work this morning after trying this last night. Only managed about a minute and a half, at 40% 1RM.

I'm off to crawl to the toilet then spend 20 minutes trying to get off it now - I hate you Wardie.

Hahahah, I think it's pretty cool.

I bet it would really be quite benificial if you carried out the full 8 week program.
