Huxley beta

When was it annouced it wont be subscription based? When i checked the huxley site recently they said the monthly fee has not yet been determined.

anyone able to play? something called nprotect pops up and tries to update... but fails every time.

What OS are you using nprotect on? IIRC its very flaky with some OSs, it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't support W7 yet.

according to wikipedia xbox will have 60v60 maximum, where as the PC version will have 100 v 100. Thats much bigger then the battlefield games.

Add to that the special abilities for each character, and crafting weapons and it becomes more like an mmorpg than any battlefield game.

ChrisJSY has it - I think the 100v100 idea went out of the window when they switched to the UT3 engine. Sadly the original concept of Huxley has changed a hell of a lot over all the years of development. Still, as a UT3 fan I am looking forward to seeing what it turns out like, even if it doesn't quite live up to its earlier aspirations.

Now if only someone would make a proper sequel to Planetside...

Then either the wiki is out of date, or the e3 reviews are all wrong saiyng it's 32 player for the PC.

Also subscription is gone and it's now micro transactions.
I'm sure any game with micro transaction in name fails these days :/

Also, please understand the meaning of MMO in MMOFPS.
Massively Multiplayer Online ... FPS/RPG/etc.

"Special abilities" and "crafting" do not make a game an MMO, I can't believe you even said that.
Arma 2 is capable of the same, if not more people, it is not classed as an MMO.

One of the old school reviews which is still used to do mentions 5000 people online on the same server at once, a bit misleading when it's just a non combatent lobby, even then I'm sure it's instanced.
Whatever huxley was, it keeps changing to a lesser and lesser incarnation of a dream.

Will check out beta to see if what's been said is true ;)

I reinstalled the game and now suddenly it not loading and moaning about missing vorbis.dll files??

you have to scan the files every time, and that seems to get you in, but for me it keeps crashing every time I try to join a pvp battle... annoying..

I know what MMO means. Maybe I didn't explain what i meant in the best way, but what i was trying to say was that its not like a battlefield game. I only know what was on wikipedia, and that talked about the leveling and crafting, similar to what mmoprgs have rather then any small fps game like battlefield games, and it also mentioned that outside of missions the cities can support 5000 players, which would have made it a MMO in my books.

If wikipedia is out of date and it no longer supports 5000 players then fine, its not an MMO. I hoped that people updated the wiki page as news is released at E3 like they do with other games, rather then leave it being out of date.

Anyway, with what the game is now, i don't see it being popular. Perhaps game developers don't think a MMOFPS will make enough money after the failure of planetside, meaning little chance of a decent MMOFPS ever coming out.

yeah, afaik the very first rumours/news about the game was a mmo, guns, armours etc, futuristic thing and gave the impression it would be a fairly standard world/idea's, WOW/Lotro/whatever but set in the future and instead of spells and what not it was switching to fps and giving us real aiming and the like.

Then over time it was clear they'd massively over reached, got massively delayed and it became, ut3 with a character that can probably gain stats/ranks and gain access to new weapons and what not and you could interact in game lobbies with all fighting in instanced battles.

It sounded rather crap tbh, but I think mostly this failed from wanting to use a big nice pretty engine and be on a console, had fail writen all over it in terms of massive numbers.

You play wow/lotro and the busy towns and area's go to crap because theres so many people, so much to do, hugely lacking system and gfx memory on a console just mean that kind of game will not work on those scales.

If Huxley was for PC only it might have been a proper MMO and been interesting. It still might be ok, battlefield is old and dead, CS:S is so old its embarassing, COD:4 is easy, small and a bit poo really, I could do with a new multiplayer fps whatever the heck it is.

But nothing from what we've heard in the past year sounds anything like a "mmo" as we think of the genre.

It might be a nice game, i really hope it is a decent fps, but you just can't really go for the grand scale stuff, on a console.

MAG? 128 vs 128? Only just less than Planetside in it's hey-day (166 pop lock originally IIRC, they dropped it to 133 when core combat was released).

166 people per side (in a 3 way fight!) was so epic in size no more was needed. You still had solid walls of rockets and firepower raining down on 2 or 3 sides of a base with those numbers.

*sigh* I miss it so much :(

It is still around you know :) Everyone's on one of the US servers now though, can't remember which one. I wish they'd drop the sub price a bit, can't really justify another monthly sub when I'd only play it once a week or so.

Uhhh I can't even play the game.

-Install Huxley.
-Click the exe, brings up a webpage which I need to sign up for, makes sense as I need to verify I am a beta user.
-Finally get taken to the main page with "Play Now & Download Game Client" Buttons, cannot click play now, so download game client which is no doubt some malware infested pile of junk, but whatever, let's install it.
- Restarts Browers, nothing, same thing.. cannot play.
- Go into game directory, click Huxley.exe and it crashes explorer and I am now unable to open task manager so I am going to have to force shutoff my PC.

Pile of.
