I've just been to pick up my new car today. I've not had it out for a proper run yet, I didn't have time to sort the insurance before they shut for the night, but had a brief test drive without running over too many children. There's a little rust here and there, nothing at all structural and nothing that'll take much effort to fix, certainly not a lot for a 23 year old car. I'm sure penski would be proud, it's old and rwd enough. I'll post some more tomorrow/sunday when I've had a chance to give it proper ragging:) after an oil change.

A proper ragging? Careful, you could hit speeds of up to 23mph.

Still speechless at how things have changed, now any old banger is a 'fantastic old skool classic' actually worth buying simply becuase its RWD.

I'm off to buy a Reliant Robin, OMG LOLZ HARDCORE RWD THRILLZ.

I'll take everything back if you intend to drop a 2.0 lump into and road rally it :D

Our motor club has a group shuv it :D last time it did 7 sessions at Castle Combe and it still managed the 160 mile trip home :D

One day almost certainly. For the moment it's just semi-cheap student motoring and going out to marshall so I don't get too competitive and stuff it into a tree.

Even only having driven a mile or so I'm seriously impressed with the gear box. A nice short lever going straight to the gearbox, none of this linkage crap I'm used to on peugeots. Steering feels nice too, no PAS so you can actually feel the road, but light enough that you can still park easily.

//edit Shame I'm working tomorrow or you could have had a look fox. I'm sure Chris Newman could show you if you felt like going through Swaythling whilst your in Southampton tomorrow.

Slaming-wise I'm not too sure. It'd look good, but I want to be able to get down white roads easily if I need to marshalling. That said sump guards are only £50 so thats always an option. The dampers on there seem to be okay though so I'll wait until it needs them replacing I think.

Oi Oi, I hear my name mentioned on the t'internet!

But by all means, if anyone feels they'd like to come poke some fun at the shuv-it, those on the s'hampton meet can follow me home :D

Seems to be *fairly* solid, good ole rust like most 23 year old cas though (In a much better state than my mini tbh)

Dave.. did it have to be mint green throughout??

I like the colour thank you very much:p. I may come back at lunch time and take the car in to work, so it may or may not be there.

2.0 Pinto fits nicely in the Chevette, although a 1.8 Manta or 2.0 Carlton/Cavalier engine would give more power and (IIRC) weigh less.
As you say, "slamming" it may not be a wise idea if you're taking it over whites - though I think Rally Design do some good uprated springs by Tenstar.

Oh and having a 205 GTi, I hate gear linkages too :p

I like old skool cars, but to me that holds no attraction at all. It was never special when it was made and isnt special now. The shape of the car too is pretty boring, and just looks like an '80's scrap box that forgot to go rust and die :D . There are tonns of RWD car's that you can have fun with, if you get a big lump in there - ill be impressed... but only that you put a nice lump in there!

Anyways, thats just imo - but glad your happy with the purchase and happy motoring :)
