Hynix vs Samsung 980 ti memory???

Very little gets real world gains from VRAM overclocking currently anyhow unless you are trying to get that last 0.1fps for a WR :S

Depends on the silicon lottery of the chips too, my 290X Lightning's Samsung chips will do 1700 comfortably.

Ha, my 7950 will do that, 1750 is my highest profile but they do more still. won't hit 1800 with stock volts mind, know that much. Shame my core is such a weirdo to work with, will do over 1ghz on 0.994vcore but it gets hot as hell with even minor voltage bumps and thermal throttling comes in :(

I know it's just the GTX 970, but when they was released the MSI Gaming Editions came with Samsung, but I've read in various forums that recent batches have come with Elpida, same goes for MSI GTX 980 Gaming Editions.
I guess a lot of companies have switched to Elpida for their 970s and 980s in order to save the Hynix and Samsung chips for 980 Ti and Titan X models. I bought a Palit Super Jetstream 980 in December that had Samsung memory. I bought two more of the same card this year from different retailers (because I liked the first card and ended up regretting selling it) and both had Elpida memory. In the end I just bought one of their 980 Tis, which has Hynix chips.

It's all luck in honesty, unless you buy one of the high-end models which almost always come with Samsung.

What 970s do you guys have with Samsung memory?

I hadn't cared before this thread but now I'm intrigued, my G1 Gaming 980Ti is Hynix.

Interesting. I had not thought it possible for any type to be used on the same card. I thought it would be fixed eg. Always hynix on g1 gaming's.

If the theory previously stated is correct, there might be value in buying the top tier cards earlier to increase the chance of them having top tier memory on. This maybe only true while they are the top tier and totally irrelevant as next year will be hbm and ddr5 being redundant.

Don't think they have any Samsung in the Titan x. Gone through 9 of the things and current trio are Hynix. Same as Gigabyte G1 gaming 980Tis are Hynix.
