HYPER 212X - Replacement Fan

Hi,

I have the Coolermaster Hyper X 212 & It's cooling my 6600k i5 really well.

However, the coolermaster fan has a bit of an annoying noise to it (when under load). I've noticed this in all Coolermaster fans I've owned to be honest.

I wanted to replace the fan with something a bit more sophisticated/upmarket.

My preference was this:

Just a few questions:

1. Will this fit?
2. This is designed for CPU use - 4pin yes?
3. Does anyone have experience with these fans? are they quiet?
4. Will the cooling performance be as good? (I'm sitting at about 29c idle & 40c load with the fan in silent mode in the bios, currently).

Thanks

Tom

I've noticed the specs of the Corsair seem worse?

the stock cooler master says:

- Fan Speed: 600 - 2,000 RPM (PWM) ± 10%
- Fan Airflow: 24.9 - 82.9 CFM ± 10%
- Fan Noise Level (dB-A): 9 - 36 dBA

But the Corsair ML120 says:

- Speed: 400 – 2,000 RPM
- Sound Level: 16 – 37 dBA
- Airflow: 12 – 75 CFM

Is this really right that the Corsair is noisier despite beign a lower RPM??

The fan might well be a whole decibel louder... but what will make the noise is the air passing through the cooler fins.

1. Yes, it will fit.
2. 4-pin, yes.
3. There are some threads around, but mostly comparing them against Corsair SP120s, which are quite loud anyway.
4. What you want to compare is the Static Pressure (in mm/H2O), since these will be used to push air through a restricted space.

"29c idle & 40c load with the fan in silent mode" sounds pretty reasonable...
Remember, the absolute lowest your temperatures will go is basically ambient room temp, since you're using air from that room to do the cooling.

Yeah I'm not really fussed about the temps - more a better quality - more silent fan...
Other fans are quieter, but crap... other fans have better performance, but are noisy. You want quiet without losing the decent performance you already have, plus decent quality.

Quality + silence = Noctua, every time. 6 year warranty wins it for me.

I use these on my 212X. High pressure for use on rads and heatsinks. Great fan, work really well.

I have 2x 140mm Corsair high pressure fans up front, 1x 120mm Corsire high airflow at the rear and 2x 120mm Corsair high pressure fans on the cpu heat sink in a push and pull setup. This is setup in my lounge and all fans set to max rpm constantly, hardly hear it at all.....
