Hi there guys,

I've been pondering around the forums for a long while but never actually signed up, so please be nice.

I have been wondering whether anyone has tried using their own router to access Hyperoptic and not bridge the routers together as they prefer on their website?

I know people have in the past (more than a couple years ago after searching on Google) but since they have changed their routers etc, i'm not sure whether they have limited to what you can do.

I have ordered the 1gig line and will be using an Asus RT AC87U router. Would there be any additional settings i would need or would it just be plug and play?

Hyperoptic is just Ethernet so any standard Ethernet router will work (I use a netgear one) with my 1gb hyperoptic, you don't need to do anything special :) just make sure you get one that can do 1gbps of WAN routing throughput,

Hyperoptic were persitent in trying to get you to use their router but after a lot of persuading they gave up.

It wasn't a simple plug and play, they had to give me the appropriate ip details for the non-standard router to work.. plus after a bit of testing.. confirmed the HO router is crap in terms of speeds.

Asus router with latest merlin build:

i assume the upload will increase as its still within its cooldown period.

The upload speed should be close to gigabit speeds from the get go, this isn't a DSL product.

Try a different speedtest.net server.

unfortunately tried different servers.. and the upload still lagging at around 200mb/s

Also tried different firmware builds.. both by Asus and Merlin.. no real change

even worse with the original router.. everything has been disabled to help reduce the overhead and this is the speed i get on speedtest (tested about 4 servers all with similar speeds)
