I am a child killer :(

sure it was speed and not ANPR?

I highly doubt you would get done for an indicated 80.

You have to be suspicious for other reasons for thames valley to bat an eyelid under 85mph ACTUAL which is probably more like 90 indicated, hampshire are the same (from the horses mouth so to speak, friend in roads policing)

Yes you could, if he'd hit you it'd be his fault entirely for not keeping enough distance, if you see the need to brake then you should do so...

What a totally stupid thing to say. You would rather endanger somebody else's life and possibly many others for the sake of 3 points? I can't believe that you would seriously consider slamming the anchors on and then saying "meh, he was in the wrong for being too close..too bad" *shakes head in disbelief*

Solari mate, you remember my thread about speeding....well I did 70+ and braked and still went passed the camera at about 60 because I had given up hope by then. It's been about 2 months now and I never heard a thing and this one was facing me in a van.

Fingers crossed mate.

I would (hypothetically) be tempted to slam on the brakes at 80mph to 70mph to be honest as 3 points would absolutely cripple me through insurance and through nerves until my two year period has expired.

This is one of the reasons I'm fretting, mind you, my 2 year period is complete in November so it'd just mean driving like even more of a granny for a few months. :)

To be honest I'm often guilty of following the flow on the motorway rather than concentrating on the speedometer too much. The split second you spend checking the dials that can mean you missing something potentially dangerous IMO. In over 500 miles of motorway driving over 2 days I've seen a lot of very scary and dangerous manouevres by various people.

As for the slamming the anchors on post, I wouldn't fancy hitting them, and then being fishtailed by the guy behind thanks... I value my life more than my licence ;)

Depends how close we are talking, if there was going to be a crash FOR CERTAIN then I wouldn't.

Otherwise, probably. I would have thought everyone around you was slamming on the anchors as well?

Obviously a big slow down was going on last minute but the guy behind me was literally a few metres behind so no chance :) Ho hum, off to relax for a bit. The whole thing has spoilt what was a really nice weekend away :(

Should be fine, i remember a yr or two ago being 'gunned' at 90 indicated and i never heard anything about it, but damn i sweated for weeks :D

If there was a sudden need to brake hard, then he probably would have gone into the back of you but thats his fault for being too close. Perhaps you could have just lightly pressed the pedal, so your brake lights come but didnt slow down, to give him warning.

I will eat my hat if you get done for an indicated 80, I know of nobody who's been done for less than a real 80 in fact I'm pretty sure I can remember the police saying they wern't interested in anyone doing less than 80.

Also to all those with there crazy 10%+2 figures etc it is entirely at the discretion of the police force they are if they wish entitles to pull you for 71 MPH it's just most police forces choose not too. The actual figure they will do for varies from force to force and the 30mph figure can vary a lot!

Was going to say the same thing. Good point snowdog.

Yeah, you're right. It would be his fault.

It would probably be his fault that he hit you at slightly the wrong angle where he panicked before impact, making it his fault when he pushes your tail out and you slam into the car to your left. It'd probably be his fault that the car on the left has no in Door Airbags and the innocent driver is killed. Also, it'd be his fault, at this stage, thatyou're now travelling sideways at 70+ and rip your tires off, thumping the rims into the concrete and flipping your car into a mighty messy barrel roll.

Alright, so it's over the top and probably unlikely... but why the hell would you take that chance?
