So, decided I would out some new tunes on my iPod nano just now, so whipped out the external hard drive and grabbed the power cable for it.

Now for some stupid reason the powercable is shaped like an s-video connector and has the same pins, so me being the BIGGEST JACKASS in the world for some weird reason, plugged it into my laptops s-video connector....whoooom screen went black and i thought OH ****.

Turned it back on and all seemed fine thankfully, a few minutes later i had a error messgae saying the card had malfuntioned and needed to restart, fair enough i restarted....no screen...its gone completely black now.

I managed to get it up again after about 10 mintues of contant on and offing but it just blue screened.

Now as you would expect the warranty went out wait for it.....48 hours ago, SODS FLAMING LAW :o

Any ideas? Or will i be splashing out $1500 for a new laptop?

You may be able to blag it and get them to cover it under warrantly as it has 'failed' that close to the warranty period...

Yes just say it started showing strange behaviour last week, but you haven't had time to phone up yet. Basically then you can argue the problem started in the warranty period.

Wow that's just unlucky :p
I'd try and claim the warrenty since it's so close to the warrently ending :p Good luck!

Errm, that does not sound good. You may have to replace the laptops motherboard, which isn't cheap (probably cheaper to get a new laptop).

What model is it?

You may have to get another laptop (if the warranty thing doesn't work) ;)

The laptop is a Sony Vario AR190G

Luckily i have a macbook which i can use in the mean time, its just I used this for all my class work, really hope I can get the stuff from there some how.

The laptop was brought from the UK but I live in the US now, do you lot think they will allow me to send it to a US center rather then a UK one?

So you connected the hard drive external power cable to the video card input ? opps

Its not a great design having them both connect easily really, I would have done that on the first day I had it if it were me :o

The video card on the laptop will be removable I think ?

that should have a 2 year warranty on it, you should be fine. Most vaios over the last couple of years have had 2 years.

dude LIE!

Say you rang them up a week ago ;)

My sister sat yesterday and cracked my ipod. It was 4gb one as well :(

She didnt even apologise she complained it was in her way
