these are my system specs ..Operating System = Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

Motherboard = Crosshair IV Extreme

CPU = AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition @4.0 Ghz

Memory = 16 Gig of DDR3 Gskills Ripjaw Ram F3 1066 CL9

Graphics Card = ATI HD 4870 x2 Dual GPU 2048

Audio = Logitech Easy Call Desktop

Keyboard = Logitech G15

Mouse = Sidewinder 2000 Dpi

Storage = 1 x 2TB Western Digital 64Mb cache

Storage = 4 x 1 TB Western Digital 32Mb cache

DVD Drives = 2 X LG Blue Ray DVD/RW

Power Supplies = 2 X 1200 Watt 30A Rail Both Spliced Together

Monitors = 1 x GNR 24" And 1 x Hannspree 24"

I will be starting a build log as soon as all the parts arrive and i begin the Physical Build .
What started out as an idea which i thought was going to be simple ,has turned out to be complicated and costly ,but i am going all the way and will complete the build .
I have already done a "Custom Desk Pc Build" where i built my own desk and arranged the whole inside to incorporate the whole pc .

Excellent stuff mate:)

Played with Peltiers back in the Pentium III days when u needed a separate PSU for them :)

Got one in my Dominator GT Cooler inc water block and it works really well.

+1. Can't really see the point of what you're planning other than to play with a pelt. For long-term cooling they really just aren't needed anymore.


Guess its just personal preference ,with the system i have ,i want it to last as long as poss as i run 24/7 ,so i would think that this would be more beneficial to me to dp a setup like this .
In doing this it is also a great chance to build a good functioning peltier system as the parts i have actually bought are not low spec and this soo far ,just for the peltier has cost me over 500 pounds .
I do appreciate the comments tho ,i just thought it would be good to log it on here ,as the guy who is making the blocks is a well known tec guy and he has had some great results {ULTRASONIC2}.
 
For those not in the know, what is a peltier?

Electric device - has a very cold side at the expense of an even hotter side. The chip sees the cold side, you use some serious cooling on the other.

They consume loads of power in the process, so they used to have dedicated power supplies. You don't get anything for free with thermodynamics.
 
Which peltiers are you using?

but i did list them in the system spec ,2 x 300Qmax TEC's

...I think the TEC'S kinda gives it away .

i am by no means an expert at this ,but i have experimented with other builds and have had great success with temps on my current build . So i now venture where many fear to tread and the only reason i didnt before, was due to me needing to save up for all the extras to be able to do it ,plus the fact that i run my system 24/7 so if i do this right i can make it as efficient as possible for continuous running.
 
There is no real way to make it efficient:

You're drawing x watts to power each
You need to cool the CPU + GPU + each tec which means you need a monstrous waterloop

You do get cold temps etc, but at the expense of having to go through a lot of hassle and put up with a room like a sauna and a massive electric bill. An 80w tec on added to a Athlon XP / ATI 9800 loop made a surprising difference to the ambient temperature in a smallish room, you're cooling the equivalent of chernobyl in meltdown :p To add to the inefficiency you'll probably want an AC unit in the room too :p

Good luck, and don't let anyone put you off, but if I were you, I'd play with the TECs as an experiment and use the desk etc with a normal waterloop for day to day. Phase or a chiller (not using TECs to cool a radiator or similar, as that sucks too) would be a better option for longer term use IMO.

If you want to go ahead, enjoy yourself and make sure you do it properly. It sounds like you've done your research, so I hope this doesnt come across to preachy.
 
I am preparing my controller for the build ,i have had to remove 1 of the capacitors on the tec unit input connection ,,to allow smoother control of the TEC'S .Have also installed a fan to enable the controller to remain properly cooled during running .

I have also installed the Mosfets onto a dual heatsink build with fan to also control the heat generated during running conditions.

The relay has also been fitted to a adequate block,i used a stock cpu block for this .

Some of you may say that these fittings are ,"overkill" ,but i would also remind those of you who have never done this ,that the items here generate "a lot" of heat ,plus the fact that my whole desk build is a wooden Custom Built Desk PC.I am making sure ,there will be no risk of overheating and fire,so i would rather be safe than sorry .
I have boundless room inside my Desk Build ,so i am optimising here.
 
This is a big outlay and and TEC cooling solution should never be considered a '24/7' solution.

your looking at an overall coefficient of around 0.3.
For what you required, phase-change either indirect or direct would have been a far better solution and could have nearly tripled your coefficient.
 
i have a friend who works for a big company and he has a EVGA Classified Super Record 2 (SR-2) Motherboard with the highest cpus on the market ,he has to run 24/7 because of his work ,he has the same setup cooling wise as i am now doing and has no issues whatsoever,all tecs are properly done ,configured and it is fine ,he has been running this setup now for quite a while and he is not the type of person to rush into things ,he has researched all the ins and outs of doing this and his running temps are -12 constant ,believe me if i thought it was not going to be worth it ,i would not have spent the money {quite a lot i may add} and time on this so far ,if it was not going to do what i wanted it to do .
I do appreciate the comments ,but please respect the time and effort put into the research and the cost of doing this .i have a lot of "Good people" involved in this and they have a lot of time under their belts.
I respect your comments too.
My actual desk build is running at very low temperatures constantly ,and this is just in the way i have designed the desk ,so i want to do this and see just what i can achieve .
 
Its Me isn't saying it's not going to work - just that it's a huge waste of power compared to air/water/phase change. Because TECs are very inefficient devices which draw a huge load to set up the temperature differential.

But whatever floats your boat.
 
Each to their own :) some serious black magic going on with those doohickies. Give me a big chunk of copper and aluminium with a fan strapped to it any day
